What is a Mutual Fund?A mutual fund is a pool of money combined together that is invested into securities such as stocks, bonds, money markets and other unique assets. A fund can hold an array of 10 securities to over 100 securities, depending on the type of fund.
-
How is a mutual fund managed?Mutual funds are operated by highly educated professional money managers who make decisions on what stocks/bonds are bought and sold within the fund. These managers work for companies such as Fidelity, Invesco, TD Asset Management, etc
-
How do I make money? When you buy a mutual fund, you receive units of that fund at a specific price point. Simply put – when more stocks go up than go down, your value increases.
-
Do I have access to my money?Yes. Unless you are investing into GICs with permanent terms, everything you invest will not be locked in and accessible. We don’t charge extra up-front fees, withdrawal fees or any of the sort. It’s your money, you should be able to get it when you want it. When you notify an advisor that you require money for a purchase, we can have it in your bank account within 2-4 business days. We do not do daily/weekly trading in attempts to beat the market by continuous buying and selling.

Why mutual funds vs individual stocks?Mutual funds are professionally managed by highly educated professionals who make choices on what stock to own in the fund. Not only do mutual funds provide great diversity so you are no putting all your eggs in one basket, but it also gives you the ability to own thousands of stocks without having to pay the price of each individual stock. Example: Amazon is priced around $3,200. You would have to pay that in full for 1 share. Alternatively, you can buy a U.S. Large Cap Fund with Amazon in it (among many other large corps) for as low as $25. Since you receive units of a fund, you can gain exposure to all the companies at an affordable price, while being diversified.
-
Are TFSAs, RRSPs, RESPs types of investments?NO! They are types of accounts that many different investment (such as mutual funds, stocks, GICs) can fall under. Many people think that a TFSA is an actual product. It is commonly mistaken that a TFSA is a GIC with a rate attached to it. We often hear the question “What are the TFSA rates today?”. Not the case!
-
Do you sell stock?Although our advisors have the training and education to sell stocks, we do not offer stock at the moment as we are licensed under the MFDA regulator which only allows mutual funds. We are hoping to sell stock in the future as changes take place.
-
How do I view my investments? We have an online system where you can login to view up to date market values on all your investments and accounts. We also have an app that is about to be launched. You can also call, email or set up an appointment at any time to review your investments or have a statement sent out, at no charge.
