LSIFs

Labour-Sponsored Investment Funds are similar to mutual funds in many ways, but they are different in a few significant ways:

  • Labour-sponsored funds tend to be higher risk than most equity mutual funds.
  • Labour-sponsored funds have certain restrictions as to what companies they may invest in.
  • Labour-sponsored funds generally offer tax credits of up to 20% provincially and 15% federally, meaning that an investor who has a marginal tax rate of 45% will receive a tax break of 80% on LSIFs bought in an RSP.
